Our History
They say necessity is the mother of invention, and that
is, in many ways,
the story of the Davies Murphy Group.
When we started the agency in 1998 (then known as SparkSource,
Inc.) it was
the direct result of not being able to find the kind of
agency we were
looking for as clients. We were looking for an agency that
didn't bring in
senior VPs to pitch us, only to swap in the junior associates
when it came
time to actually staff the account. We were looking for
an agency that
would quote us a fair price and then send us invoices for
that amount,
instead of including an extra 30% in mark-ups, overruns,
and hidden charges.
We were looking for an agency that would work side-by-side
with us to do
whatever it took to be successful, rather than explaining
why things
couldn't be done or why whatever needed to be done fell
outside the scope of
the engagement. After more than a decade of looking for
that agency, we
concluded it didn't exist, and thus the Davies Murphy Group
was born.
Since 1998, we have enjoyed double-digit growth every
year in all facets of
our business - revenue, profitability, number of clients,
and number of
employees. But it has been controlled growth, deliberately
gated by an
explicit decision to put quality of service ahead of business
expansion. We
have no desire to be the largest or the fastest growing
agency. Instead, we
prefer to be known, as we are, for providing the highest
quality service and
the most consistently impactful results.
This obsession with quality of results and service has
put the Davies Murphy
Group in a unique position. The agency boasts the best
client retention
record of any agency in the United States, having lost
exactly one client to
another agency since its founding in 1998. Further, our
clients have taken
up our cause and served as our sole channel of business
development.
Literally 100% of our clients have come into the agency
as word-of-mouth
referrals from other clients. We have never cold-called
a prospect and we
have never done any proactive business development.
Today, we are 36 people, focused on public relations,
marketing
communications, product marketing, and business strategy.
Our clients range
from early-stage venture-backed start-ups to multibillion-dollar
international conglomerates, and span the globe from South
Africa, Norway,
the U.K., and Japan, to California, Ohio, Massachusetts,
and Virginia. |
